Rebecca "Becky" Arsement Mansveld

1948 ∼ 2015

Rebecca “Becky” Arsement Mansveld peacefully passed from this world to her eternal home on Friday, June 12.

She was born on December 7, 1948 to C.C. and Dorothy Arsement. She graduated from Nederland High School in 1967. After high school she attended Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. She served as an RN, lovingly caring for many people for many years. Her life’s journey took her to Houston where she began her family and became a director of religious education at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She loved sharing the Lord with others. She and her family returned to Nederland where she raised her four children and became the Director of the Nederland Senior Citizen Center, taking the reins after her mother. She happily served as director there for 25 years.

Becky loved to quilt and made many prayer quilts for people who were suffering and ill. She also loved the Lord and was an active member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Port Neches where she gladly sang in the choir, was a member of the Ladies Guild, and active member of the A.C.T.S. community.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Port Neches on Monday, June 15, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Shane Baxter celebrant. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches under the direction of Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland. A gathering of the family and friends will be held Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Vigil beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the church.

She is survived by her four children, Tammy, Sherry, Jeremy, and Greg Mansveld all of Nederland. Also her siblings, sisters, Debbie Miller and husband, Don of Port Neches, and Phyllis LaBure and husband, Eddie of Nederland; brother, Dennis Arsement of Nederland; and the father of her children, Gerard Mansveld of Conroe. Lastly she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who she enjoyed being a part of their lives and whom loved her greatly.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church Youth Ministry.

Becky was one of the first people our family met when, as newcomers to Houston in 1978, she welcomed us to St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. Thirty seven years later she was still spreading love around as she made a prayer quilt with a golf theme for Art after his surgery. Becky was rightfully so proud of all of her children. What a kind, loving, forgiving, generous, caring heart she had. . .and what a special friend. Rest in peace, dear Becky. With prayers for all the family, Paula and Art Kirkpatrick Macon, Georgia

Deacon Don and I have known Becky since the beginning of St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in 1979. We also lived in the same neighborhood in Sugar Land. Just last year Becky and Sherry were here to visit and to bring me a prayer quilt that she had made for me. They also attended Mass with Cindy Kral and I at St. laurence parish. Becky and I always kept in touch with each other and have communicated frequently on Face Book. Sherry contacted me the night that Becky died and I was saying the Divine Mercy Chaplet for her shortly before she died. She was a wonderful woman of God, a good friend and a great Mom as well. I have no doubt that Becky will be with The Lord praying for all of us until we join her in the presence of The Lord. We will remember all of you in prayer! Blessings and love, Deacon Don and Sherry Burns

Becky was the sweetest friend and always seemed like the reserved and mature one in our class. She had a great smile. It's not surprising that her life's vocation was nursing. She gave to our community in so many positive ways. She will be greatly missed. Please accept my most heartfelt sympathy and prayers for your peace as you lay this gentle soul to rest.Love, Susan Morgan Streetman

Becky called me out of the blue and said that she wanted to make me a prayer quilt. She asked for my favorite colors, and it was such a blessing to receive it from her. I proceeded to really be grateful when I was diagnosed with cancer this time last year. I have been blessed in visiting with Becky several times--most recently after I was somewhat better. Thank you God for sharing Becky with us. We loved her counseling nature and gentle humor. One of the Ladies of '67 who missed her presence at our gathering today. Linda Eastis Cobb
