Rebecca Diane Martin Bourg was born on May 25, 1946 and was called home on October 29, 2022. She married Haden Joseph Bourg Jr on Dec 17, 1966. They were high school sweethearts- she was a cheerleader and he was a football player.
She was a selfless and devoted mother to both her children, Christopher K. Bourg and Megan Bourg Sassin. She greatly loved her grandchildren Christina Knight, Clayton Bourg, Lucas Sassin and great grandchildren Brynnlie Bourg, Reese Knight, Colin Knight, and Loki Bourg and cherished spending time with them (and teaching them how to bake!).
She was an adventurous soul and loved to travel to see the world which she shared with her family. She was her happiest when surrounded by family and friends. Serving others, especially through the sharing of food, brought her so much joy. She was an exquisite cook.
She had immense amount of patience and loved to teach and served as a substitute teacher in Keller Independent School District for many years. Most of her time was spent in the Special Education Department, where she was loved by all. She served in her church as a CCD teacher and in Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA), again sharing her gift of cooking and baking to serve the greater good.
She had a passion for rescuing animals, especially cats and even a pig once. She passed this love for cats and all animals onto her children and grandchildren, teaching them the importance of love and respect for all lives.
No one was a stranger to Becky. She could easily talk to anyone from anywhere and made everyone feel welcome, appreciated, and valued. She simply lit up the room. She was a true gift to all who knew her. Her spirit will remain in all she touched.
Additional survivors include her brothers, Richard D. Martin, Jr and his wife Jacquelyn of Beaumont and David M. Martin of Nederland; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Rebecca is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Evelyn Martin and her brother, Thomas "Tommy" M. Martin.
