Reginald D. Barras, born on May 9, 1942, in Beaumont, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025, in Port Arthur, Texas, at the age of 82. He was a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose life was characterized by a deep love for family, a passion for animals, and an unwavering spiritual devotion.
Throughout his distinguished career as a Lab Technician at Mobil Oil, Reginald was known for his meticulous work ethic and dedication to his profession. His contributions to the industry were a point of pride, though it was his roles as a father and grandfather that filled his heart with the most joy. He leaves behind two beloved daughters, Ericca Mendoza and her husband, Andrew, and Amy Peters and her husband, Anthony. Reginald was also a doting grandfather to his four grandchildren: Olivia Mendoza and her husband, Nathan Griffin, Isaac Mendoza, Audrey Peters, and Elliott Peters, each of whom brought him immense happiness and pride.
In addition to his immediate family, Reginald is survived by his sister, Cynthia Sell, and sister-in-law, Janice Ramirez, who will hold dear the countless memories shared throughout the years. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Claudia Barras, and his parents, Horace and Gertrude Barras.
A man of profound faith, Reginald was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, finding solace and purpose in his spiritual journey. He was a kind and curious man with many hobbies. He played in the band with Johnny and Edgar Winter. He was surrounded by a deep heritage that always made for great stories. His great sense of humor, compassionate nature, and love for animals highlighted his loving spirit, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
The family will gather to honor Reginald's life during a visitation on January 11, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, hosted at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, TX, 77627. Reginald's warm heart and loving spirit will be deeply missed but will forever inspire those he leaves behind.
