Robert E. Dill, 90, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas. Robert was born October 3, 1923 in Port Arthur, Texas to Luther Taylor Dill and Naomi Parker Dill. He was a lifelong area resident and graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School. After World War II, he continued his education with a BS Degree from Texas A&M University and received an AA Degree from Lamar University of Port Arthur. He retired as a Supervisor of Personnel from Firestone in Orange and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Groves. Robert loved his God, his family and his country. He was a modest, unselfish man who always put others first. Through the years he silently helped people thus setting an example for his children and grandchildren. Robert held memberships in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4820; Groves Masonic Lodge 1315, AF Knights Templar Commandery No. 73; Port Neches Chapter No. 436 RAM; Port Neches Council No. 413, R Association of Former Students, Texas A&M University; Ninth Air Force Association; Buddies of the Ninth Association; and National World War II Glider Pilots Association. Robert was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Barnes. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Nellie McBride Dill of Port Arthur; two daughters, Claire E. Dill of Groves, Celia A. Glass and husband Dr. Bryan Glass of Gonzales; sister, Reba King and husband John of Bronson; brother-in-law, Otis Barnes of Groves; two grandchildren, Cydney Mathis and husband Terry, William Robert Glass; one great-grandson, Luke Mathis; one foster granddaughter, Arlene Sanchez; and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at First Baptist Church Groves with Reverend Carlton "Buddy" Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Bluff Memorial Park.
