Robert and I worked together at KTRM/AM&KIEL/FM in Beaumont in the early 1970"s. Robert was one the station's sales execs and his personality had a high woo factor which enabled him to ingratiate himself to others in a short period of time. He was one of the station's best producers. Robert had other talents that were hidden from public view unless you got to know him in a different way. Robert had a great voice and was an accomplished singer. On a business strip to Austin, we stayed at a hotel that had a piano bar in the lobby. After we put our things away and gathered again in the lobby area, Robert introduced himself to the piano player and soon was seated with them and began to sing a Porter Waggoner song. Soon Robert was upfront, leaning on the piano, and taking requests where he sang for about 45 minutes, entertaining an audience of forty to fifty people. His Silsbee, Tx, charm was on full display. I remember him with great affection from those says along with other station members. We stayed in touch until about 6-8 years ago and he kept me updated on his academic life as well as his music life and his collection of guitars. Even though I have learned how to miss him, I am deeply grieved to learn of his passing. Here was a man who lived life with a great passion and in so doing, he blessed many, many others along the way. God bless Robert and may God hold him in HIs bosom until the He calls all of us home.
