Robert Arthur Smith Sr.
Robert “Smitty” Smith, 84, of Hemphill, Texas, passed away on January 14, 2023, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas.
Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the American Legion #7. 3750 Memorial Boulevard Port Arthur, Texas.
Robert was born in Coushatta, Louisiana, on April 5, 1938, he was the son of Arthur Tyler Smith and Bessie Slaughter-Smith. He was a member of the American Legion #7, Port Arthur Cosmopolitan Masonic Lodge #872, and Hemphill Littleton Fowler Masonic Lodge #305, he was also a member of the Patriot Guard Escorts, COC & IR, and Pipe Fitters Local #195 as well as a member of ABATE “share the road”. During his free time, he loved riding his motorcycle, fishing, hunting, and taking short trips with his dog “Bubba” on his golf cart. He was a mentor to many he touched, taught, helped, guided, directed, and guarded. Physically gone but never forgotten!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Bessie Slaughter Smith, his son, Robert “Bobby” Smith Jr., and his brother, Philmen Lee Smith.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Jackie Smith of Hemphill, TX; his daughter, Wendy Smith of Pasadena, TX; five grandchildren, Brandy McDonald, Jeremiah Baggett, Joel Baggett, Rob “Bobby Dale” Smith, and Bryan Smith; thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and SPCA.
