Ronald LeRoy Sauls

March 12, 1915 — March 25, 2011

Ronald LeRoy Sauls was born in Onalaska, Texas on March 12, 1915 to Sara Eugenia and Robert Logan Sauls. He had 2 sisters, Janie Lois and Dixie Lucille and 1 brother Robert Erman.Ronald would marry Pauline Virginia Smith in 1939 in Livingston, Texas at the Methodist Parsonage. They remained devoted to each other for over 50 years until Pauline39s death.Ronald would receive his bachelor39s degree from Sam Houston State, his master39s degree from Stephen F. Austin, and his counseling certification from the University of Houston.He would at one time during the depression work at Pure Oil in Beaumont. Even crossing a line of striking employees to honor the company that had saved his job when he was called to war.He entered the Army Air Corp in 1942 and was involved in various battles in France, Germany and other European sites. He would fight in the Battle of the Bulge and arrive on the beaches of Normandy the day after quotDquot day. He received his honorable discharge in 1945 a decorated soldier with the rank of Corporal.Education and the teaching profession were to be a large part of his life. He had taught first at Hudson ISD even before receiving his first college degree. He taught science and physical education and was given the title of Principal of Education.After his work at Pure Oil he and Pauline would move to Nederland and he and she would hold various teaching positions in the Beaumont and Nederland areas. Ronald would later become the first certified counselor in Beaumont ISD. Later he would go into private counseling and teach and influence many lives through his work.Ronald and Pauline were members of the First United Methodist Church of Nederland for over 50 years. He taught Sunday School for about that long and the church were a major part of their lives and their happiness. Memorials should be given to First United Methodist Church of Nederland to carry on the work of this church he loved so much.Ronald Sauls was known for his work with camellias. He won numerous blue ribbons for his work with this beautiful flower.One of the most outstanding characteristics of Ronald Sauls was his demeanor. He was at all times a gentleman. He treated others with respect. He cared deeply for each person he worked with. He logically approached each problem and worked diligently to help each person work through difficult situations in their lives.It is amazing to know that this mild mannered reserved gentleman loved riding motorcycles and bulls as a young man.His voice was never raised in anger and he voiced quotthank youquot to all who worked with him or served him in any way. He faced life with a positive attitude never giving in to anger or resentment or discouragement.Ronald Sauls was loved deeply by his family and friends and a special thank you is given to the ladies who cared for him during the last years of his life.Ronald was preceded in death by his wife Pauline Sauls, mother and father, Sara Eugenia and Robert Logan Sauls his sisters and brother, Lois Campbell, Dixie Hill and Robert Erman Sauls. He is survived by his brotherinlaw Fred Hill and nieces Kay Randle and Dixie Pechacek and nephews Robert Campbell and Eddie Hill and many extended family members and friends.A gathering of family and friends will be on Monday, March 28, 2011 at Melancon39s Funeral Home in Nederland from 5:00pm7:00pm. Funeral Service will be at 2:00pm on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Nederland with Rev. Malcolm Monroe officiating. Interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
