A Life Remembered

Obituary

Ruby Daniels Matthews, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully departed this world on August 6, 2026. Born in the warm embrace of Hutton, Louisiana, on April 20, 1934, Ruby was the cherished daughter of Earl Daniels and Marie Cooley. Her life was a tapestry woven with love, community, and a genuine compassion for others.

Ruby was predeceased by her devoted husband of 40 years, William E. (Bill) Matthews, and her brother, J.R. Daniels. The legacy of love she leaves behind is continued by her children: son Mike Benson, daughter Cathy Nohavitza and her husband Brad, and son Lance Matthews. Her life was further enriched with the joy of her grandchildren, Ashlyn Sanders and her husband Chris, and Landon Matthews. Ruby's smile would light up even more when she spoke of her great-grandchildren, Graham and Ellie Sanders, who added immeasurable joy to her later years.

For 35 years, Ruby served as a Courtesy Booth Manager at Market Basket, where her warmth and sincerity touched the lives of countless coworkers and customers. Her dedication to service extended beyond her professional life. As an active member of the 7th Street Baptist Church for over six decades, Ruby directed the nursery for 35 years, nurturing the youngest members of her community with love and kindness. Her generous spirit was evident in her volunteer work and support for numerous organizations, particularly those aiding the military and children's causes. Ruby's zest for life was reflected in her love for gatherings with family and friends, where she shared stories and laughter. Known for her vivacious personality, she never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand.

Her faith was a guiding light, and she found solace in watching Billy Graham and other church services on television when she could no longer attend in person. A service celebrating Ruby's life will be held on August 13, 2026, with a visitation at 2:00 PM and a funeral service at 3:00 PM, at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, located at 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas 77627.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization close to Ruby's heart. Ruby Daniels Matthews will be remembered for her unwavering love, her boundless generosity, and her enduring faith. Though she will be deeply missed, the legacy she leaves behind will continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate enough to know her.
