Rubye Elois Parr

1919 ∼ 2020

Rubye Elois Greer Parr, 101, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020 at her longtime home in LaBelle, Texas.

Born April 16, 1919 in Isla, Texas, Sabine County to George and Pearl Chambers Greer, Rubye was one of 15 siblings who spent their childhood on the family farm helping raise livestock, crops, and each other. After graduating high school in 1936, Rubye moved to Houston for secretarial school before finding work at Texaco in Port Arthur. There she met Elmer Parr, a young Texaco machinist. Not long after, WWII broke out and the two soon married. Elmer enlisted in the Navy Seabees while Rubye did her part at the emergency shipbuilding program in Houston, joining a workforce crucial to Allied victory. After the war, they returned to Southeast, Texas where they became charter members of LaBelle Baptist Church, raised three children and moved into the house she lived in for over 70 years.

Rubye's prodigious memory was a joy to her family, bridging a time without running water or electricity to the ever changing world of today. She was an embodiment of stability, and the constant was her love. She will be greatly missed.

Rubye is preceded in death by husband Elmer A. Parr, son Robert Parr, and her siblings. Rubye is survived by daughter Beverly Mayes & Richard, son Greer Parr & Debbie, daughter-in-law Sandra Brown & Bill; grandchildren Shelly Clubb & Shawn, Jennifer Baggett & Beau, Steven Parr & Stormy, Jamie Peterschmitt & Arno, Samuel Mayes & Amanda, Katie Dunstan & Rick, Bianca Cain & Steven, Penelope Parr, George Parr, Jackie Harvey, Missy Harvey, Laura Emmert & Brian, Eric Brown; 16 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs Parr and family were very special to me as a young boy in LaBelle. Her oldest son, the late Robert Parr, was my best buddy when we were 5 years old. We played a lot together at either house. Mrs Parr made us Kool-Aid, and she was always so warm and friendly. I had a nice talk with her about 10 years ago. My heart goes out to you, Beverly and Greer. Victor Picou. Vicpicou@charter.net

Beverly, Greer and families: my sincere condolences as you say goodbye to your mother. Mrs Parr was one of the sweetest ladies I've known. A great neighbor always on the side of right...her children reflected her philosophy...,, I still remember her unique chuckle. Rest in peace Ruby with your beloved husband Elmer and son Robert.

Mrs. Parr was always one of my favorite people as I was raised across the highway from the Parr family. My brother, Glenn referred to her as Aunt Parr. But we weren't related. She was always sweet and loving. I am looking forward to seeing her in Heaven. Beverly and Greer my heart goes out for you at this time. You were truly blessed to have her as your mother. I would be at the funeral except for Covid cautions at this time. We are all well. Praise God. Love and respect ya'll. As always. Doug Estes
