Rudi “Tookie” Schamber, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 69 on July 26, 2021, after a long-fought battle with ovarian cancer.
Born in Port Arthur, TX to Rudy and Lillian Flores, Tookie was the younger of two daughters. She grew up in Port Arthur and attended Thomas Jefferson High School along with her husband-to be. But neither of them knew that (or each other) yet. Following graduation, she taught yoga, professionally, and later worked at Gulf States Utilities. At a high school reunion, she met Daniel (Danny) Schamber, and years later they would marry. Residing in Groves, TX, they raised their three sons before moving to Louisiana, and eventually Rowlett, TX, in 1998.
Tookie was an extraordinary and exceptional woman whose smile and style could warm your heart and light up a room. She was an extremely talented designer and decorator, and her home—not to mention her ornately designed scrapbooks—reflected that talent. She was an avid lover of music, especially the Fab Four. Her home’s “Beatle Room” is a sight to behold. She loved tending her flower garden and creating a sanctuary for the neighborhood birds. In recent years, she grew to love professional Hockey, especially her Dallas Stars.
Most importantly, Tookie loved and cherished her family and friends, and her relationship with her Lord was strong and never wavered, especially during her five-year battle with cancer. A battle that never robbed her of her smile, her warmth or her faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Linda Stokes.
Tookie is survived by her husband, Danny, and his two sons, Troy Schamber and Brad Schamber and his wife Maggie; her first husband, Allen Daigle and their son, Jeffrey, his wife Jessica and their daughter Abigail; her nephew Joseph Stokes, his wife Jennifer and daughter Annelise; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and family and friends who loved—and still love—her deeply and dearly.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Encounter Church on 5300 Twin City Hwy, Groves, TX on Saturday, August 7, 2021 with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 p.m.
Flowers may be sent to 5300 Twin City Hwy, Groves, TX.
