Rufus D. "Skeeter" Weatherford

Rufus D. “Skeeter” Weatherford, 91, of Zavala, Texas passed away Friday, September 2, 2016. Rufus was born on July 1, 1925 to the late James Henry Weatherford and Hattie Janette Powell. He was known as “Pops” by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Skeeter worked as an operator at Unocal Refinery for 39 years.

He is survived by his wife Betty Weatherford of Zavala, Texas; sons Roy Weatherford and wife Laura of Port Neches, Texas, and Terry Weatherford and wife Wanda of Nederland, Texas; eight grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; brother James Weatherford of Port Arthur, Texas; and sister Margaret Williamson of Vidor, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and a sister.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Seventh Street Baptist Church in Nederland, Texas with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas. The visitation will be Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations to be made to Plum Ridge Missionary Baptist Church Mission Fund Zavala Texas, 75980.
