Russell was such a kind and soft spoken neighbor, always waving & stopping to talk and visit when he was walking his dog. We enjoyed our visits with him and are so heartbroken he got sick. He is missed already. Prayers for his wife, Sheila, and children and family. May he rest in peace, free from sickness and pain. Sincerely, Joe & Laurie Graffagnino

Russ was my first friend in life. We had so many interesting and fun things we shared over the years - too numerous to write: From him showing me how to write on the wallpaper with crayons, sledding down high school hill until our feet were blue, Christmas morning joy, swimming endlessly when the weather allowed, playing with our neighborhood lifelong friends, tackling teenage angst, thru the years until we started separate lives and had our own babies. We loved our nieces and nephews as our own. He was always happy to be with his family. He is pain free in Heaven with those that have passed ahead of us. I will look for you when my time comes, Russ. Love you always.

Russ is my oldest brother. We were six years apart in age, which was a huge age difference growing up. When I was four or five, he was ten or eleven. Most older brothers would consider it a burden having such a younger brother, but Russ always treated me as an equal, making me feel so much older than I was. Even when I played with his possessions (he was an expert at building anything, including models), I would inadvertently break or destroy something. He never yelled at me or disrespected me. As I got older, he always included me even though it was an uncool thing to do. He took me to my first drag race, snuck me into my first R-rated movie, and when he worked and lived in Schenectady, he would let me stay with him for a few days at a time. We spent countless hours watching trains and walking the train tracks (we could do that back then!) and exploring countless backroads just to see where they went. My favorite destinations were in the North Blenheim/Gilboa/Summit area. His mechanical interests rubbed off on both my brother John and I, and we both grew up working on all things mechanical, and our careers followed that path as well. When he left for Texas, I was disappointed in how far away he was, but he struck gold there when he met Sheila. From that moment on, I realized he had made the right decision. As we got older, our time together was infrequent, but I cherished every moment I got to spend with him. Russ is a little over six feet tall, but in my eyes, he is ten feet tall. He is a loving brother that I have nothing but the most cherished memories of. He will always live on in my heart and I look forward to seeing him again someday. I love you, big brother! -Doug-

I had the great pleasure of growing up across the street from Russ & all the Selkirk kids, on Washington Avenue in Cobleskill, NY. This was the 1960's! We spent every waking moment playing outside. The Selkirks had a huge gravel lot on the back of their property. Every Summer evening, the Selkirk and Hanson kids plus any others, brave enough to join in, would have some serious kickball games going on. More often than not, the games would end for the evening, because of a heated debate whether Chips Hanson was SAFE or OUT! Or if Doug Selkirk's ball was a FOUL or NOT! We all just loved playing kick ball so much. By the next night, we'd be out there again, ready to kick the ball and run the bases. Everyone hot & sweaty. Our lives as kids were lived outdoors on those Summer days & evenings. Hide and seek @ night, by the light of the street lights. Bicycles and kick balls by day. Running, pedaling, laughing & screaming! (and sometimes crying) Thank you Russ for always being a great team player. Even though we were were always on opposite teams! You're loved and missed by so many! Praying for comfort, for all of your family and friends.

Will miss seeing him walking our neighborhood. Would see him faithfully walk his dog everyday (before his dog passed) and he would always offer a friendly hello/wave.
