Ruth May Dore, age 92, of Port Neches, Texas passed away on April 5, 2018 in Port Neches. She was a native of Nebraska, the fifth of ten children born to the late Molly and Fred Klein. The family later moved to northeastern Colorado, where she attended schools through high school. Following graduation, she relocated to Denver and worked as a stenographer in Civil Service at Buckley Field.
While living there, she met Vernice J. Dore, who was in the Army stationed at Buckley Field. They were married in California in June 1945. After his discharge in 1946, they came to Port Arthur, TX where he returned to work at Gulf Oil and she worked for an insurance adjusting agency and Ellerbee Brothers. After the family moved to Port Neches, Ruth went to work at UNOCAL, retiring in 1984. While there, she served as a director for SBT Credit Union and as secretary for the POCO Club and UNOCAL Retirees clubs.
Though she was a working mother, she served as leader for Camp Fire Girls and Boy Scouts and occupied a good deal of her time with PTA in the elementary grades.
She enjoyed crafts and cooking and quite often won awards at cooking contests. She made and gave away hundreds of ribbon crosses.
She is survived by her son, Michael J. Dore and wife, Jan of Houston; daughter, Molly J. Graser and husband, David of Port Neches; grandchildren, Lauren R. Graser Atwood and husband, Derek of Conroe, Vince and Elon Lam of Port Neches and Houston, and Chris, Brian, MeiSei and Allison Lam of Houston. She is also survived by a sister, Peggy Stumpf and husband Don of Fort Collins, CO and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by Vernice in 2010 after more than 65 years of marriage; sisters Freda Reitz, Leah Talbott, Rachel Kautz, and Dot Bonura; and brothers Bill, Raymond and John Klein.
A Divine Mercy Chaplet will be recited at 4:15 p.m. on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland with a Rosary being recited at 4:30 p.m. with visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Shane Baxter, officiant. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
