Obituary

Ruth Tompkins, 84, of Nederland, Texas passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at her residence in Nederland. Ruth was born in Port Arthur, Texas on December 15, 1936 to the late, Phillip Huckabay and Vicie Howell Huckabay.

Ruth was a faithful and dedicated member of First Baptist Church Nederland. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She volunteered many hours caring for both

adults and children with special needs.

In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Leroy Tompkins; and her daughter, Sharie Tompkins Roy.

Those left to cherish Ruth’s memory include her sons, Danny Tompkins and his wife, Sharon of Nederland and Michael Tompkins of Nederland; grandchildren, Jessica Carlin, Hannah Andrews and her husband, Stephen, Kami Sasser and her husband, Wesley, Erik Autrey, Daniel Tompkins and his wife, Tiffany; Kayla Fondren and her husband, Chase; and Dylan Tompkins and his wife, Jennie; and 21 great-grandchildren.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland on Friday morning, October 29, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service to begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. The Reverend Dr. Jason Burden with First Baptist Church Nederland will officiate the service.
