Samuel "Sammy" Melvin Moody, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, at his home in League City, Texas surrounded by his family and the family dog, Hooch.
Born on November 17, 1946, in Houston, Texas to parents Sidney and Alice Moody, Sammy spent his first couple of years in Houston. His family then moved to Sabine Pass, Texas where he spent all of his school years, growing up alongside his siblings, Sidney, Charlie, Robin, Asa, and Gail.
Sammy graduated from Sabine Pass High School in 1965. After graduation, he was employed by Moran Towing. Beginning in 1985, Sammy worked for Marine Fueling Service as a Tugboat Captain for 30 years until his retirement in 20l4.
As much as he loved working on the water, the greatest joy of his life was his family. It was in Sabine Pass where he met the love of his life, Peggy Brammer; and they were married for 37 years. Sammy was a most devoted husband to Peggy and did a magnificent job in caring for her, especially during the last year of her illness.
He was an avid outdoorsman, and he loved duck hunting and fishing with his grandsons, nephews, and friends. He was a dedicated gardener and took great pleasure in tending to his grapefruit trees, satsuma trees, pecan trees, and Meyer lemon trees. Sammy loved sharing produce from all his trees with neighbors.
One of his favorite pastimes was driving out to the Coushatta Casino and playing on the craps table with his brother-in-law/craps buddy, Carroll Letney. Carroll considered himself an expert in craps and would instruct Sammy “when the tables were hot.”
Above all, Sammy cherished his family and was so proud of his wife and children. He was "Paw Paw" to his grandchildren and was the most loving grandfather on Earth. He loved nothing more than having the grandkids over for the weekend and hunting and fishing with his older grandsons.
Sammy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 37 years, Peggy Moody; parents, Sidney and Alice Moody; brother, Charlie Moody; and sister, Gail Moody Barnett. He is survived by daughter, Lisa Fort, and husband, Nathan, of League City, Texas; son, Trey Trosclair, and wife, Kathy, of Sugar Land, Texas; and daughter, Michelle Sauer, and husband, Jake, of Groves, Texas. "Paw Paw" is also survived by grandchildren, Ross, Anthony, Adam, Joseph, Kyler, Karsen, Jaxon, and Sydnee; and two great-grandchildren, Luke and Nataleine.
Our family would like to give special thanks to Joseph C. Masdeu, MD, and the Houston Methodist Nantz National Alzheimer Center for all of their support and care during Sammy's illness. Also, special thanks to Essential Hospice for providing so much love and compassion during the most difficult days of our lives.
Services will be held at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 5601 39th St., Groves, Texas, 77619. Visitation will be held on February 15, 2025, from 12:30 to 2:00; and the funeral will commence immediately afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The National Alzheimer's Association.
