Sandra "Sandy" Landry

Sandra “Sandy” Landry, age 75, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2026, in her home surrounded by the love of the family she spent her life protecting. She was a woman of fierce strength, boundless grace, and unwavering pride.

Born in Lafayette, Louisiana on June 22, 1951, Sandra learned early what it meant to endure. As a young child growing up in McAllen, Texas, her family traveled back and forth between Texas, Indiana, and various states following the harvest. Beside her parents and brother, she worked the fields picking crops—including cotton—forging a relentless work ethic from a very early age. Though circumstances kept her from finishing school, she possessed wisdom, grit, and toughness that no classroom could teach. She later spent many formative years in Indiana, selflessly helping raise her younger siblings before starting her own early adulthood and welcoming her first two children into the world.

Sandra found her true calling in her family. Alongside her beloved husband, Jeff, with whom she shared 39 years of a deeply loving marriage, she built a home rooted in devotion. Together, they were blessed with a child of their own, and Sandra proudly welcomed two stepdaughters into her heart. Together, Jeff and Sandra built a life of shared adventure—never missing a grandkid’s school event, loving nothing more than hitting the open road on their Harley or in their classic cars, and traveling across the country to stay connected with the family and friends they cherished.

To Sandra, the boundary between friend and family simply didn’t exist—everyone she met was instantly welcomed into her heart as kin. Her warmth and guidance were so profound that she graciously served as a beloved Godmother to countless nieces, nephews, and children of close friends, offering a steady hand and a mother’s love whenever it was needed.

That love was most vividly felt in her kitchen. She was always the very first to step up and teach anyone willing to learn how to cook the cherished Mexican dishes passed down to her by her mother, Olympia. Through every birthday cake, lemon meringue pie, sopa, arroz con pollo, and shared meal, she kept her family’s culture, heritage, and Olympia’s memory vibrantly alive—nourishing not just our bodies, but our connection to where we came from.

As a mother and eldest sister, Sandra was a fierce protector. She possessed an indomitable toughness when it came to her loved ones, standing guard over her children and her siblings sacrificing her own needs so they could thrive. Her grace was her outer beauty, but her courage was her inner strength.

While her early life was hard, Sandra created a life rich in love. Her spirit, pride, and lessons now echo through her children and grandchildren and extended family near and far. The impact of her love will shape generations to come.

Sandra will be remembered dearly by her husband Jeff Landry. Her memory will be treasured by her daughters, Sarah Hodges and her husband, J and Chelsea Davis and her husband, Nathan, and her son, Greg Schmerber and his wife, Joelle, along with her stepdaughters, Rachel Sedtal and her husband, Joey and Natasha Landry, grandchildren, Logan, Dakota, Victoria, Kaiman, Branson, Braylei, Mason, and Emma; great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Iris, and Octavia. She will further be missed by her siblings, Noel Martin, Linda Marcucilli and her husband, Ralph, Gloria Millspaugh and her husband, Scott, and Lisa Ailes and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Sandra was predeceased by her parents, Joel and Olympia Martin, grandson, Tristan Cooksey, sister, Linda Marie Palmier, and sister-in-law, Linda Martin.

The memory of Sandra will undoubtedly continue to inspire and uplift those fortunate enough to have known her.

A visitation to honor Sandra "Sandy" Landry will take place Sunday, September 13, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life to begin at 2:00 p.m., at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Groves.
