Sandra "Sandy" Laurentz

December 7, 1939 — June 6, 2024

Nederland

Sandra "Sandy" Laurentz, 84, of Nederland, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on June 6th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Born Sandra Nordstrom on December 7, 1939, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Sandy's journey was marked by remarkable achievements and deep connections. She dedicated thirty-two years of her life to Sabine Ship Services, where she was the General Manager, before retiring in 2018. To her, the employees were her second family, and to the end, they kept in touch with MIss Sandy. Her husband Leon "Gail" Laurentz, was the love of her life. There was never a more devoted couple - they were their true and best selves when they were in each other's company. They didn't like to spend even one day apart. They relished moments on their back porch swing with a glass of wine, making plans and sharing memories.

Sandy's true joy in life was found in simple pleasures. She loved to travel, she loved to shop, and she loved her casino trips. But more than anything, she loved time with her family and friends. She was the life of the party, with an impish grin and a smile that lit up the room. She loved long walks on the beach with Gail, and weekend pool parties with lots of food and laughter.

Holidays were always big family celebrations. Birthdays were epic. Since 1990, the 2nd weekend of December was "Nordstrom Family Christmas" where Sandy and Gail and their family gathered with Sandy's siblings and their families - it was always a joyous weekend, and then there was Christmas, her favorite day of the year with Gail and their kids. Sandy delighted in finding the perfect gift for each of her loved ones. Memories, so many memories!

Gail departed this earth in 2019, after 55 years of marriage, and she missed him every waking hour. Her grandson Justin PIttman passed in 2007, leaving a huge hole in her heart. She was also preceded in death by her parents Phyllis and Harold Nordstom, her younger brother David and step-son Ricky Laurentz - all people she loved dearly. Sandy is survived by "her girls", daughters Shawn Duplantis and husband Dennis of Nederland, Kristine Tucker and husband Walter of Nederland and step-daughter Donna Torbert and husband Darrell of Dickinson and step-grandson Joey Harrington. She also leaves behind her brothers Jon Nordstrom and wife Jan, Tommy Nordstrom and Loyce; her sister and best friend Kris Nordstrom McBride and husband Michael; sister-in-law Cristy Nordstrom; Gail's sisters Freda Cormier and Jimmie Don Sullivan; and a large familiy of nieces and nephews who all adored their Aunt Sandy. And we can't forget the grand pups Rosie and Lulu. So many of her daughters’ friends were incredibly close to Sandy - they were extended family and an important part of Sandy's life.

Sandy and Gail were active members of St Charles Catholic Church in Nederland for more than 50 years. Her ACTS Sisters provided so much comfort and support in her darkest hours through the years.

The family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice and Montebello Home Care for the love and support they provided to Sandy and her family.

A visitation will be held on June 15th, 2024, at 10:00 AM followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland located at 1605 Avenue H Nederland, TX 77627.

A reception will follow at Sombrero Mexican Grill in Nederland on Highway 69, where friends and family are invited to gather to share stories and laughter. Sandy was a casual gal, who loved beautiful, colorful clothing. If you wish, dress in your favorite "Sandy Attire" too.

Sandy was a bright shining light in our family, and we will miss her so much. But our hearts are filled with joy, knowing she and Gail are together again for eternity, watching over us. Godspeed Sandy.
