Sandra "Sandy" Hollis,86, of Port Neches, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas. Born on January 16, 1938, in Morristown, New Jersey, Sandy lived a life filled with love, adventure, and dedication to her family and community.
Sandy's professional journey began as a stenographer, and she later expanded her career into Home Health. After years of hard work, she retired from Johnny On The Spot, where she dedicated 10 years of service. Following her retirement, her passion for helping others remained unwavering as she drove a bus for special needs children and served as an aid to handicapped children at Hughen School. In 1976, Sandy and her husband relocated to Port Neches, where they opened and adeptly managed the Pompano Club until 1978. Her entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic were a testament to her character.
Education was also a significant part of Sandy's life, as she attended Northwestern College in Louisiana, where she developed a love for swimming. Sandy was an active member of her college swim team, specializing in synchronized swimming. She and her husband often enjoyed dancing together, participating in numerous dance competitions that highlighted their lively spirits.
Sandy was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where she found community and support. Sandy was known for her warm personality and caring nature, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her adventurous spirit shone through as she enjoyed activities such as canoeing on Village Creek with her family, camping, and spending time at the beach. Her love for archery showcased her adventurous side, and she was known for her daily coffee gatherings with the Waffle House gang, where laughter and camaraderie thrived.
Sandy is survived by her daughters, Renee Sikes and her husband, Daniel of Sulpher, LA, and Christine Gordon of St. Augustine, FL. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Robert Norton and his wife, Kara of Madison, WI, Alethea Simon and her husband, Grant of Erie, CO, Ashley Alzora Norton of Bressolles, France, Joshua Byrnes of Tallahassee, FL, and Heaven Caten of Lakewood, CO, as well as her great-grandchildren, Vivian Norton, Lochlan Simon, Johnathan Michael Byrnes, and Lilly Byrnes.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Nan Gertrude (Reich) Richards and John Vincent Richards; her beloved husband, Richard Earl Hollis, Sr.; their son, Richard Earl Hollis, Jr.; and her sisters, Ann Gertrude Cullen Harm and Maria-Lynn Georgi.
A gathering of family and friends will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 1:30 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 17, 2025, at Melancon Levingston in Port Neches located at 2001 Nall St., Port Neches, TX 77651. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
Sandy's life was a tapestry woven with countless memories, loved ones, and adventures. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
