Sarah Anne Cannatella

1926 ∼ 2020

Sarah Anne Cannatella, age 94, born in Dublin, Ireland on June 29, 1926, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas. Sarah is preceded in death by her parents John and Mollie Moore and son Joseph Cannatella. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Frank Cannatella of Port Neches, Texas; daughter, Mary Cannatella of Port Neches, Texas; sons John Cannatella and wife Tina of Fannett, Texas and Paul Cannatella and wife Whitney of Fannett, Texas; grandchildren, Mia Cannatella, Sophia Cannatella, Joseph Cannatella, Molly Cannatella, Cross Cannatella, Davey Dugas, and Caisson Cannatella.

She was "love" to her husband and Granny to seven grandchildren. A strong, wise, determined women to every person she met. She first came to America when she was 34 with just a suitcase and a knack for fashion. She once said her favorite job was an internship in Dublin where she designed the window displays for a shop. In Beaumont, Texas on April 2, 1973 she became a US citizen.

She was a creative mind; this is put on display in her home where her original art pieces cover the walls. She found joy in creating art, collecting handbags, and antique shopping. She was a master in the kitchen and often prepared meals for days. She would set up the most beautiful table for her entire family to enjoy. We would cherish every bite and all the memories made at her dining table.

She traveled the world, from vacations to Sicily to enjoy pizza, to the shores of Ireland, and all of her road trip quests. Her children remember a childhood filled with driving to destinations across the country. They would pile into their VW Cannavan and drive to Colorado, Tennessee, Louisiana and more. Of all the travels her favorite trips were to Ireland with Frank, they never went anywhere without each other.

In her last days she was visited by family and loved ones, where we would pray the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet. She was a devout catholic and a strong believer in the power of prayer. She was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church. She lived a holy life and often donated to the less fortunate, she would say "what you come into this life with, is what you leave with" and to "always be kind." She was selfless, a women who would always lend a helping hand whether it be with her time, treasure, and prayer.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 2:00p.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Reverend Shane Baxter officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospitality Center, 3959 Gulfway Drive, Port Arthur, Texas 77642.

Condolences

I'm Paula Curran, Sadie's niece in Ireland (youngest child of her sister Maureen). I was born after Sadie left Ireland and only met Sadie a handful of times, but they were great times and Sadie made a big impression on me. Firstly as a child when she brought Mary and Joseph with her on holiday to Ireland, a very happy few weeks spent together. I remember the long letters handwritten she and Maureen exchanged regularly. In later years the letters were replaced with phone calls ......long ones.....the phone could ring at 11pm or 12 midnight or even 1 am (sometimes waking Maureen) and we just knew it was Sadie. They would talk for hours and it seemed like they weren't thousands of miles apart. Then I met Sadie and Frank on the various holidays they spent here in Ireland, those visits were always so interesting and such fun, two wonderfully interesting and loving people. In recent years I had several phone conversations with Sadie, Sadie was always curious, so interested in you as a person, asking so many questions, and always so positive. What a wonderful aunt!! Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam.

I'm Dolores Rafferty (Curran) Sadie's niece and proud godchild in Dublin, Ireland. I loved Sadie and would not have space here for the many wonderful memories I treasure of her. My first is walking to Cassidys shop in George's St where Sadie worked with all her glamorous pals. My Mam, Sadies sister Maureen, used chat with Sadie and her colleagues would bring me on a tour of the shop and make a fuss of me! We had lots of fun picnicking in Bohernanreena Waterworks too where Sadie picked flowers one time and got into trouble with the warden but happily talked her way out of it! She was full of energy and fun! Great memories too of our visit to Sadie and family in '96 you all made us so welcome. My thoughts and prayers are with you all, especially Frank. I'm sorry I can't be there but sending you all love, hugs and peace. Ar dheis De go raibh a hanam. Dolores xxx

I'm Sadie's grandnephew Dónal from Dublin, Ireland (her eldest sister Maureen was my nana). I was fortunate enough to get to spend a very special Christmas with Sadie and Frank and their family in Texas in 1996 on a visit with my family (my mum Dolores is Sadie's godchild and niece). Sadie was a joy to be around, and a constant source of laughs! Sadie also ignited a lifelong love of Cajun cuisine in my family that Christmas with her delicious gumbo! Sadie (like her sister Maureen) was a larger than life woman, a pionner of her generation, and a model for future generations. Rest in peace Sadie - leaving us on Día de los Muertos no doubt eliminated any delays on your journey to the next world! Love to Frank and all the family XXX

This is kelly Comstock Bigham. My one and only memory of Joseph 's and John' s mom was when Joseph invited myself, lee McBride, and Debbie kimball to his house and mrs. cannatella made us egg fu young (sp?). It was soooo delicious. It still is one of the top ten things I've ever eaten. She just threw it together and ... wow!
