Shirley Jean Johnson, 79, of Silsbee, Texas passed away November 14, 2021. She was born in Oakdale, Louisiana on November 6, 1942 to the late Louis Oliver Whatley and Emma Emmons Whatley.

Those left to cherish Shirley’s memory are her daughters, Patricia Berwick of Beaumont, and Annette Nelson and her husband, Donald of Silsbee; her sons, Keith Johnson and his wife Frances of Humble, and James Johnson and his wife Tiffany of New Bern, North Carolina; 7 grandchildren, D. J. Berwick, Jonathon Berwick, Amanda Johnson, Hannah Johnson, Daniel Nelson, Kayla Johnson, and Sidney Johnson; 3 great-grandchildren, Saylie Nelson, Stella Berwick, and Hunter Nelson; her sisters, Gwen Godeaux and her husband Jerry of Vidor, and Doris Shifflett of Port Neches; and her brother, Gerald Whatley and his wife Donna of Vidor. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman Johnson; her sister, Katherine Alleman; and her brothers, Cecil Whatley and Roy Whatley.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home on Thursday, November18, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Jerry Godeaux and Rev. Jeff Godeaux officiants. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
