Shirley Peecher

1928 ∼ 2025

Shirley Peecher, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on August 26, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on October 23, 1928, in Leesville, Louisiana, she dedicated her life to nurturing her family and faithfully serving the Lord. Shirley will be remembered for her gentle, kind spirit and the joy she found in being surrounded by her family and friends.

She also enjoyed spending time in her yard where she tended to her numerous plants and flowers. Her green thumb was matched only by her commitment in feeding the wide variety of wild birds that visited her yard. She loved to feed the birds, but the squirrels… not so much.

As a devoted member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Nederland, Texas, Shirley volunteered as a Sunday School teacher for more than 20 years. She demonstrated care and love to her young students, sharing the word of God and creating lasting memories for all who learned from her. She also volunteered numerous hours at the church’s mission, Camp Takula, working to enhance and maintain the camp property. Her profound commitment to her church and community exemplified the values she cherished deeply.

Above all, Shirley's greatest joy came from her family and friends. She is survived by four of her six children: Debra L. Peecher; Lisa P. Kachel, and her husband Victor; Robert A. Peecher; and Karen P. Tolley, and her husband Shawn. Shirley's legacy continues through her nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were graced by her warmth and love.

Shirley was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Franklin Peecher, and their two daughters, Sharon Evans and Linda Cornell.

A visitation to celebrate Shirley's life will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 1:30 to 2:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:30 PM at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas. A graveside service and interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas.

Shirley's spirit will forever be remembered as one that welcomed everyone into her home and made them feel like family. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew her and were touched by her beloved kindness.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fellowship Church Mission for Camp Takula. Donations can be made online at https://fellowshiptx.churchcenter.com/giving/to/missions — please select “Camp Takula” from the dropdown menu.

Searching for memories of Aunt Shirley, was at best, a journey filed with many stories and events. From Louisiana to New Mexico back to Louisiana and finally to Texas. My memories are best remembered through the relationships of the "6 AMIGOS". Through the sister act of "LaVerne and Shirley", 6 cousins began a journey of a lifetime. A time filled with encouragement, guidance and support that allowed us to be the individuals we are today. Both of these ladies were Great Payer Warriors. Praying always for God's Blessings and Safety to surround each of us to protect and guide our paths.. Their trust in their Savior and reliance of Him has , over time, been honored (We all turned out pretty good ). We are Praying for Jesus to cover you with HIS Peace and Comfort today. A donation has been sent to her churches mission program as requested in her Honor. Love Ya'll.

I loved Shirley very much and went to visit her most every week, she was an encouragement and shared a lot of funny stories about her life and some sad. She was so sweet, I am 20 years younger then her and she wanted to come help me clean my house and one day when she came to visit me when I had surgery she swept my kitchen and living room. I will miss her very much.

Shirley Peecher who I affectionately called "Peaches" was one of the kindest, most loving, godly ladies that I have ever known. She and my late mother, Mattie Clopton were the dearest of friends. Shirley and mother were from the old school where you looked out for and corrected each others children as needed so she was like another mother. She served the Lord at New Testament Baptist church in our youth and then later at Fellowship Baptist in Nederland and when she could at Camp Ta-Ku-La. That first little church was small so the members performed many duties. Keeping attendance records, counting and depositing offerings, or cleaning bathrooms and cutting grass. She was a lady who loved her family and her Savior. On the day that she passed I returned from the hospital with her devoted daughter Debra to her home in Nederland. As we walked in the front door my eye was drawn to a counter stool in her kitchen where her Bible sat open. To know that we will not enjoy her physical presence again on this earth makes me sad. But that open Bible was a firm reminder of her chosen relationship with Jesus her Savior who she trusted with her life for eternity. On that very day she met her Savior face to face. She reunited with her husband Bob, her parents, her two oldest daughters and countless others who had chosen Jesus as their savior as well. I also know that my parents would be counted among that group and this sadness turned into rejoicing. It is bitter sweet to say goodbye but it is with confidence I know her Savior said well done thy good and faithful servant. Peaches I loved you and am so thankful for your touch and influence on my life. I will see you again on the other side.
