Sonja McCreery, 79, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas. Sonja was born on October 2, 1942 in Port Arthur, Texas to the late Clency Ronquille and Ethel Kelly Ronquille.

Sonja was a long-time member of the Proctor Baptist church in Port Arthur, Texas. She served on the homebound group and taught Sunday School at the church for over 40 years. Sonja loved plants, flowers, and especially roses. She was crafty, compassionate, and a strong-willed woman. Sonja was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Those left behind to cherish Sonja’s memory are her husband of 61 years, Milton McCreery; son, Kent McCreery of Port Arthur; daughter, Tammi Hicks and her husband, Bryan of Lumberton; grandchildren, Kandice Gillespie and her husband, Reagan of Lumberton; Lani Edwards and her husband, Kenneth of Lumberton; great grandchildren, Bryson Edwards, Brody Edwards, Noah Gillespie, Emery Edwards, Harper Gillespie, Scarlett Gillespie all of Lumberton; sisters, Sammie Young and her husband, Jim of Port Neches, and Karen Manion and her husband, Dale of Georgia. Sonja is preceded in death by her parents.

A gathering of family and friends in honor of Sonja McCreery will be held on Saturday January 15, 2022 at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow the funeral and will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas.
