Stephenie Noble Schlett

1965 ∼ 2024

With deep sorrow, we share the news of the passing of Stephenie Noble Schlett, a respected educator, dedicated family member, and treasured friend, who left us on October 30, 2024. Born on July 12, 1965, in Nederland, Stephenie led a life marked by love, compassion, and an extraordinary commitment to her community.

Stephenie was a dedicated educator for over thirty years, touching the lives of countless students who she loved dearly. Her impressive career includes awards such as the Reaud Excellence in Education award in 2019, Student Council Junior Teacher of the Year in 2016, Junior Achievement Teacher of the Year in 2011, and Nederland High School Teacher of the Year in 2010. She started the AVID program at NISD and served as the AVID District Director for many years, where she helped hundreds of students realize their full potential. While she cherished her time in the classroom, teaching U.S. History and Economics, in the more recent years she broadened her impact by serving as the high school testing coordinator. Stephenie also shared her enthusiasm and love of the Nederland Bulldogs by serving as the Varsity Cheer sponsor at Nederland High School.

Stephenie is remembered fondly not just for her accolades but for the joy she brought to the lives of those around her. She was deeply devoted to her family, caring for her husband Rocky and her children Abbie, Stephen, and Katherine. She derived immense joy and pride from her grandchildren—Gloria Parrott, Jaxson Stampley, Lynnon Stampley, and Margot McKinley—whose lives she profoundly touched with her love and wisdom. Stephenie was described as a “rock” by many, always there to provide a shoulder to cry on and offer unwavering support during times of need. Her home was a sanctuary for friends, family, and former students who had become like family to her.

Stephenie was known for her warm and friendly nature, treating everyone she met as a friend. During her visits to Galveston on the weekends, she quickly formed a wide circle of friends who cherished her deeply. She had an undeniable zest for life, always loving to plan and host gatherings, decorate for every holiday, and orchestrate occasions that brought joy to all her loved ones. With a unique sense of style, Stephenie delighted in dressing up and coordinating matching outfits for her family. Stephenie leaves a legacy of wonderful memories filled with laughter and love.

Stephenie pursued her education with great enthusiasm, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Lamar University. She was in the process of completing her master’s in history, demonstrating her lifelong dedication to learning and growth.

Stephenie is survived by her husband, Rocky Schlett; mother, Karen Sue Noble; daughter, Abbie Schlett; son, Stephen Schlett and wife Hannah; daughter, Katherine Schlett; beloved grandchildren, Gloria Parrott, Jaxson Stampley, Lynnon Stampley, and Margot McKinley. She was preceded in death by her father and namesake, Stephen Craig Noble.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on November 9, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a private funeral service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, both at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas 77627.

As we honor the life of Stephenie Noble Schlett, let us remember her joyous spirit, her loving nature, and her steadfast dedication to family and education. Her legacy will undoubtedly continue through the many lives she has touched.

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund has been set up to honor the legacy of Stephenie Schlett. Please send donations to the Stephenie Noble Schlett Memorial Scholarship Fund at Neches Federal Credit Union.

The Schlett's (and Nobles) really impacted so many people in and around Nederland. I know that my position in knowing them was one of privilege -- I was a student at Hillcrest under "KSN" who we all waited for ominously as she walked down the halls in her heels, but also personally immensely benefitted from her programming that took an underfunded, underestimated school and made it a high-performing one. I tutored for AVID, which Mrs. Schlett ran -- which was no easy feat. I had been in classes with Katie since 1st grade (on and off), and I always admired her and her family's high energy and passion for life, as well as their dedication to our hometown, which felt so much like family, especially growing up. I didn't know Mrs. Schlett well, but I am grateful to have benefitted from her light! <3 My very belated condolences to her and to all of her family members. I have so much gratitude for your spirits.

Bill and I send our deepest sympathies to Rocky and family. We pray for the sweet and jubilant memories of Stephenie to brighten your deep moments of sadness. My memories of Stephenie go back to her year at TJ. What an adventure that was. And then we both moved to NHS social studies. Add a year as “co- coaches” for the Debate Team! lol. We were grateful the students knew what to do! Peggy, God bless you with this loss. Love to all. Rhonda and Bill Richey

I was friends with Stephenie throughout high school, the AVID program, and through work at Nederland High School. Stephenie was my friend through many stages of our lives. There are no words to express the sorrow I feel as I write this tribute to my friend. Stephenie was the type of person who was always there for me. She believed in my abilities, and that meant a lot. She was a source of encouragement and inspiration. She always had a good solution to solve anything that needed an answer. Every summer for many years, we went to the AVID conference in Dallas or San Antonio, and boy did we have some fun. There is a special bond that happens as an educator when the people involved truly believe in what they are teaching. Through the AVID program, we shared that unique bond. During the rides to Dallas and San Antonio each summer, we would catch up, share stories, about family, work, and even our plans for the future. I always thought I would share some of these stories at Stephenie's retirement ceremony. She spoke at mine, and having her do so made me feel incredibly grateful. Many times, I would go to Stephenie for advice, and not just about school. I could really talk to her about anything. The last year I taught was 2020-2021, the pandemic year. I remember talking to Stephenie and brainstorming ways to make the AVID seniors feel special that year. Due to the restrictions, we could not do what we would normally do for the AVID seniors, and we wanted to do something special for them. We decided to get them all yard signs, and then we drove to each student's house and put them out to surprise them. She had a lot on her plate that year, but she always made time to help me, no matter what. We were both born in July 1965, and she never forgot my birthday, not even after I moved away. To her family, I am so very sorry for your loss. She loved you all very much and was so proud of you all. I want you to know how highly I thought of your mother, grandmother, wife, and daughter. She meant so much to so many people and truly touched my life and the lives of many others in a unique, special way. I will truly miss her.
