Sylvelyn Rose Mazzu Losack, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed from this life on January 24, 2025, in College Station, Texas. Born on July 25, 1935, in Beaumont, Texas, she was a devoted lifelong resident of her beloved city, whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.
Sylvelyn dedicated her professional life as an Administrative Assistant, demonstrating unwavering commitment and diligence throughout her career. Outside the office, she was a prominent figure in the community, serving as the leader of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) for many years and proudly retaining her esteemed status in KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly). Her involvement in these groups was not just about weight management; they fostered a spirit of camaraderie and support among friends, and Sylvelyn’s leadership inspired countless individuals to pursue healthier lifestyles.
Family was the cornerstone of Sylvelyn’s life, and she passionately attended every significant event for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her pride in her family was palpable, and she will be fondly remembered for her unwavering support and love. Sylvelyn leaves behind her beloved son, Dr. Mark Losack and his wife Anne of Lakewood, Washington; son Stephen Losack and his wife Geraldine of Swansboro, North Carolina; and daughter Regina Lunceford of Groves. Her legacy will continue through her grandchildren: Reverend Tanya Watt and her husband Reverend Timothy Watt, Mark Losack Jr., James Losack, Joseph Losack, Stephen Losack Jr. and his wife Karolina, Stephanie Babos and her husband Andrew, Christopher Losack, Traci Smith, Aaron Lunceford and his wife Megan, Cory Lunceford and his wife Sabrina, Hannah Lunceford, Samantha Lunceford, Gregory Lunceford and his wife Kori, Ryanne Berlin and her husband Garrett, MaryGrace Cauley and her husband Cullen, Abby Lunceford, and Shannon Lunceford. Sylvelyn was also blessed with 20 great-grandchildren, each holding a special place in her heart.
She is survived by her brothers, Donald Mazzu of Willis, Texas, and James Mazzu and his wife Carol of Tyler, Texas. Sylvelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Master Sergeant Henry P. Losack, Jr. of the United States Marine Corps; her son, Joseph Gregory Losack; and her parents, Sylvester and Antoinette Mazzu.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on January 29, 2025, at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, located at 5601 39th St, Groves, Texas, with a Rosary service commencing at 7:30 PM. Family and friends will gather again for a Funeral Service at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 4100 Lincoln Avenue, Groves, Texas, starting at 10:00 AM on January 30, 2025. Interment will be at Memory Gardens on North Hwy 69, Nederland, Texas
