Theresa “Novella” Dies, 82, of Groves and formerly of Port Acres, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas.

Novella was born on November 14, 1939, in Church Point, Louisiana to Theobert “Pop” Elkins and Alice Oliver Elkins. She had lived in Port Acres for many years and attended the St. Theresa of the Little Flower Catholic Church for many years before moving to Groves. Novella was a retired custodian at the Port Neches Independent School District. She served on the Altar Society at Little Flower and was also a Eucharistic Minister. Novella was the matriarch of her family and caregiver to anyone who was sick; family, friends, church members or just anyone who needed her. She loved to sew, spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was the person in the family who everyone took advice from and gave her great respect for her strength and wisdom. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughters, Susan Lough and her husband Clint of Colmesneil, Texas, Judy Boudoin and George Dearbonne of Labelle, Jennifer Hunter and her husband Dale also of LaBelle; sister, Joyce Cormier and husband Joseph of Port Arthur; grandchildren, Toby Lough and wife Sommer, Tiffany Mears and her husband Jimmy, Alec Boudoin, Erin Boudoin, Jada Hunter and Skylar Hunter; great grandchildren, Weston Mears, Maverick Mears, Emmi Lough, Elliot Lough and Braxton Boudoin.

Novella was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of forty-two years, Huey Dies who passed away in 2001.

A visitation will take place from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2022, at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland with a Rosary to be recited at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A Chapel Service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2022, at Melancon’s Funeral Home with Entombment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Clint Lough, Toby Lough, Dale Hunter, Alec Boudoin, George Dearbonne and Chuck Estilette.
