Thomas Arvizo

1965 ∼ 2025

Thomas Arvizo, age 60, went home to be with the Lord on April 16th, 2025. He was born on January 13th, 1965, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Cruz Arvizo and Maria Nieves Luna.

He was a proud graduate of Port Neches Groves High School, class of 1983.

He worked for Market Basket for 27 years, beginning when he was in high school. He worked his way up from a merchandiser to a produce manager. He met his wife, Christina, while working at the Mercado de Familia store in Beaumont.

He enjoyed playing horseshoes and was so competitive that he didn’t even take pity on Christina or let her win. His passion for horseshoes led him to win a trophy at one of the annual Market Basket family picnics.

He loved football, especially the Dallas Cowboys and he was sure to watch every Dallas Cowboy game. Win or lose, he never abandoned his favorite team.

He was also an avid supporter of the Port Neches Groves Indians. He was very excited when his Indians made the playoffs and went on to win state in 2023. “SCALP ‘EM INDIANS!” He always enjoyed listening to a variety of music as long as it was LOUD. Most of all, he cherished spending any and every moment with his family. It was not uncommon to find him playing basketball or horseshoes in the back yard with his grandchildren.

Thomas was a generous soul who lived life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 20 years, Christina Lindsey and his children. His daughters; Desiree Arvizo and Shelby Arvizo of Mauriceville, Tx., his stepchildren; Charles M. Salim and wife Nathali of Austin,Tx, Lance D. Lindsey of Beaumont,Tx., Levi Lindsey of Beaumont,Tx., and Angelica Lindsey and husband Pedro Munive of Louisiana. His grandchildren; Rue, Kylie, Lylah, Isaiah, Ryan, Liliana, Penelope, Landon, Mason, Makenzie, and Mikaela. His siblings; Carol Branham and husband Dave of Port Neches,Tx., Paul Arvizo and wife Laura of Mauriceville,Tx., Guadalupe Arvizo of Oklahoma, Oscar Arvizo of Nederland,Tx., Louisa Longoria and husband Lorenso of Rosenberg,Tx, and Jesse Arvizo of Mauriceville,Tx., along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents: daughter, Dedra Arvizo, and brother, Cruz Arvizo, Jr.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to the medical staff at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont,Tx, for their compassionate care of Thomas and loving support of the family.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 19, from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm, followed by a celebration of life at 2:30pm. Both will take place at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home at 2001 Nall Street, Port Neches,TX.

My deepest sympathy to Thomas' family. I worked with Thomas at Market Basket many years ago at one of the many stores I was manager. He was the produce manger. I, too, loved to pitch horseshoes and I was his teammate when he won the championship at the picnic. He was a really good guy and manager. I really enjoyed working with him. Rest in peace, Thomas.

In the short time I cared for Thomas, I witnessed a man whose strength ran deep—not loud or boastful, but steady and unshaken. Even in suffering, he had a quiet courage that spoke volumes. He held fast for his family, and they, in turn, never left his side—a circle of love that was humbling to witness! Thomas touched my life in ways I didn’t expect. In his pain, he still showed me what it means to endure with dignity and love fully. I’m grateful for the chance to have known him, even briefly, and for the quiet lessons I will never forget. To the Arvizo family, your devotion and tenderness in these final days were powerful. You walked with him every step, and that love does not go unnoticed. With heartfelt sympathy, You remain in my prayers.

One of the most memorable lessons I learned in life came from you. As a teen you told my sister and I “what’s right isn’t always popular, and what’s popular isn’t always right” as a mother I have told all my kids this (and where it came from).
