Thomas Michael Glynn, III

June 5, 1948 — July 21, 2024

Nederland

Thomas Michael Glynn III, 76, of Nederland, Texas, passed away peacefully in his home on July 21, 2024.

Tom Glynn was born in Yonkers, New York to Thomas Michael Glynn II and Dorothea Shorter. His mother wisely moved them home to Port Neches, Texas, before he could pick up a Yankee accent. He was very proud of his Southern roots and they remain firmly planted in Southeast Texas. Tom has left a lasting impression on many facets of his community.

Tom was a proud veteran. In 1964, at age 15, he enlisted in the US Navy and served as a sonar technician on a nuclear submarine during the Vietnam War. In 1968, Tom was honorably discharged and returned home to Texas. He continued to cultivate relationships within Veteran organizations. He was a member of several historical societies, and he enjoyed researching his family genealogy.

Tom met the love of his life, Shelly, by chance at Port Neches Park. He often joked with his children that his friend was interested in her, but he won her over. She said that his beautiful blue eyes were the reason he did. They were married on July 2, 1971, attended by close friends and family. (They were blessed with 53 years of marriage on this earth.)

Tom graduated magna cum laude from Lamar University earning an accounting degree. However, after a year of working behind a desk, he grew restless and wanted a career that allowed him to be outside and stay active. He enjoyed his previous electrical work at Texaco and decided to further his education and become a Master Electrician. He started his own business Texcel Electric in 1984. His family greatly admired his work ethic and willingness to help others. He would often provide free electrical work for those in need. He loved his work and wore his logo proudly on almost all of his t-shirts, excluding his Astros baseball tees or his bow-hunting camouflage.

As a man of faith, Tom strived to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ by serving the people in both his church and community. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for over 47 years. He gladly served in any role needed. His most recent responsibility with the church was one of his most fulfilling. He enjoyed practicing his Spanish alongside the Spanish-speaking members.

Tom cherished his family and faith above all else. His family takes comfort in the fact that they will be reunited again. He taught them to always trust in the Lord’s plan. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Thomas M Glynn II and Dorothea Glynn Dendy, and brother, Frank McKinzie. Tom was a devoted husband, dad, uncle, and grandpa and is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Shelly Taylor Glynn of Nederland, his five children, Angela Zimmerman (Victor) of Grand Rivers, KY, Anneliesa Speed (Ryan) of Grand Rivers, KY, Mandy Allen (Randal) of Vidor, TX, T. Michael Glynn IV (Meghann) of Boerne, TX, Allison Miller (Taylor) of Lumberton, TX. They have 19 grandchildren: Cole (Rachelle), Rebecca (Justin), Audrey (Brenden), Jake, Kyle, Magnolia, Mitchell, Ella, Jillian, Gabrielle, Maxwell, Sadie, Thomas “Cinco”, Hazel, Jack, Nolan, Elliot, Sabrina, and Bennet. Tom also has: 5 great-grandchildren: Rochelle, Kaladin, Maverick, Auroriel, and Cooper. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Peggy Jo Taylor.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 3939 Turtle Creek Dr, Port Arthur, Texas. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.

Serving as Pallbearers include T. Michael Glynn IV, Victor C. Zimmerman, Randal B. Allen, Taylor W. Miller, Ryan B. Speed, V. Cole Zimmerman, Jake T. Zimmerman, and Nolan W. Miller. Tom’s family would like to express gratitude for all the love shown during this difficult time.
