Timothy “Stumpy” Bourque, 66, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on March 26, 2014 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur. Timothy was born in Port Arthur, Texas on November 5, 1947 to the late Malcom Bourque and Juanita Thomas Bourque.
Tim started riding horses when he was 12 and became a professional horse Jockey when he was 16 years old. He moved to Belgium in 1969, where he lived until 1980. He raced horses all over the United States and Europe for several years, winning many races along the way.
Before returning to Port Arthur, Tim spent several years at Crystal Beach fishing for sharks and enjoying time with family. During his retired years, Tim used his skills to make rosaries and jewelry. Several of his pieces could be found in boutiques around the town. Tim never met a stranger and became friends with everyone he met. He was known as the class clown and always had a joke to tell.
A memorial services will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. with Deacon Ivan Watson officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held prior to the service from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Linda Leidensdorf. He is survived by his daughter, Murielle Bourque of Belgium; brother, Scooter and Charlene Bourque of Lumberton; nieces, Nataschu and Chris Vogel of The Woodlands and Kalynn and Jacob Hanna of Lumberton; nephews, Jeremy and Shonda Leidensdorf of Houston and Brannon Bourque of Lumberton; 2 grandchildren, Mathieu Vandernoot and Elisa Vandernoot; 1 great-nephew, Gavin Vogel; and his medical canine friend, Nipper.
