Tommie Ann Hays of Nederland passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2022, at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Tommie was born in Mexia, Texas to Ruth Sawyer and Douglas Earle Sawyer. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and was a dental assistant with Dr. Amuny for many years but mainly was a wife, mother, grandmother. She loved taking care of her family and helping other people. Tommie also enjoyed traveling, shopping at Dillard’s; she was very involved with her church, Procter Baptist Church in Port Arthur but her real passion was antique cars and car shows. She had a 1972 Corvette and 36 Chevrolet Street Rod which she loved dearly. Her family was her prized procession especially her grandchildren. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of meeting her.
Survivors include her sons, Robert Hays of Flower Mound, Texas and Mark Hays and his wife Killey of Nederland; sister, Gayle Emfinger and her husband Bill of Vidor; grandchildren, Lauren Hays of Flower Mound, Brenden Cannon of Nederland, Brooke Cannon of Round Rock and her "Sweetheart" Carey Commander of Port Arthur. Tommie was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas Earle and Ruth Sawyer; sister, Donna Worthen and brothers, Gary Sawyer and Earl Dean Sawyer and her husband of forty-nine years, Robert Penman Hays.
A visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2022, at Melancon Funeral Home in Nederland. A service will be conducted to Honor the Life of Tommie Ann Hays at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at Melancon Funeral Home in Nederland with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Lonnie Williamson, Wesley Concienne, Mike Lazenby, Brian Gentile, Travis Coker and Brenden Cannon.
