Obituary

Velma Chauvin Frith, born August 17, 1930, in Abbeville, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, in Port Neches, Texas. She enriched the lives of many with her warm spirit, talent, and devotion to family, faith, and community.

A proud native of Louisiana, Velma exhibited a zest for life that was evident in all she pursued. She was a standout basketball player in her youth and maintained a lifelong passion for sports, especially following the Houston Astros with fervor. Her vibrant spirit extended beyond athletics; she delighted in oil painting landscapes, a hobby that reflected her appreciation for nature’s beauty. Velma was also known for her love of dancing and live music, often cherishing moments spent listening to her son Robert perform.

Her culinary skills were renowned among those fortunate enough to experience them. Velma was a great cook, with a particular fondness for preparing Cajun dishes that spoke to her heritage and brought family and friends together around the table. Her social pursuits included active membership in the YMCA Square Dance Club, showcasing her lively nature and love for community engagement.

Velma’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a dedicated member of LaSertoma, the Altar Society, and cherished being part of The Rosary Ladies group at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church. These affiliations underscored her commitment to service, fellowship, and spiritual growth.

She is lovingly remembered by her son, Robert Frith, and his wife, Christina, of Katy, Texas; her daughter, Peggy Anderson, and her husband, Matt, of LaBelle; and a cherished circle of grandchildren: Nicholas Anderson and his wife Amy, Kari Frith, Justin Anderson, Tiffany Hinton and her husband, Brad, Gary James Frith, II and his wife, Celine, Hanna Frith and her fiancé, Brett Butler, Holly Frith, and Hayden Frith and great-grandchildren, Faith Anderson, Grace Anderson, Hope Anderson, Lynlee Anderson, Chase Fontenot, Tyler Fontenot, Colton Fontenot, Hunter Fontenot, Avery Edwards, AJ Hinton, and Avynn Frith. Velma also held a special bond with her brother, Oscar Chauvin and her daughter-in-law, Vicki Singleton. She was dearly loved by a host of nieces and nephews who fondly called her their "Nanny".

Velma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ervin Frith; son, Gary Frith, Sr.; parents, John and Olina Chauvin; sister, Velta Kershaw; granddaughter-in-law, Anita Anderson; and sister-in-law, Earline Chauvin.

The family invites all who knew Velma to join in a visitation on May 29, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 pm, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on May 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., both held at The Little Flower Catholic Church, located at 6412 Garnet Ave, Port Arthur, Texas.

Velma Chauvin Frith leaves behind a legacy of warmth, dedication, and joyful spirit that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed yet forever cherished in the hearts of her family and community.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to all those who took care of her during her days at Calderwood and her final days at Lizette Loving Care.

Loved Mrs. Frith, when she sat by me in Church she would talk with me. She always remembered who I was and that I had a sister with her name. Rest in peace Mrs. Frith. My condolences and love to family.
