Velma J. Jones

Nederland, Texas.

 It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of Velma “Nita” Jones, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, who was called home to be with the Lord on January 30th, 2025 at the age of 83.

 Born on June 12th, 1941 in Evans, Louisiana, but lived most of her life in Nederland, TX, Nita lived a life of unwavering faith, service and devotion to her Lord and Savior. Her faith was the cornerstone of everything she did, and she lived out the teachings of Christ with a humble heart, offering kindness and love to everyone she met. She led many people to Jesus and was a strong warrior for the kingdom of God. She was also an excellent cook and was known for making the absolute best pies. Those who knew Nita loved her vibrant and witty personality. She was always ready with a laugh, a quick witty comeback, or a good-natured joke that could lighten any room.

 Nita was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Minnie Hinson, her late husband, Welborn “Will” Jones and infant daughter (from her first marriage) Vicki Renae Brown. She also rejoins her sisters, L.E. Hinson and Marie Hinson Parker, and brothers, Jimmy Hinson, Thomas Hinson and Johnny Hinson.

 Her legacy is carried on by her beloved children, Randy Brown and wife, Dorothy of Pt. Neches, TX, Dana Waldrep and husband, Kevin of Nederland, TX, and Danny Brown and wife, Sheryl of Colmesneil, TX; her brother, Tommy Hinson; her cherished grandchildren, Nikki and Rj Fernandez, Brett and Erica McPhatter, Jessica and Dewey Merren, Jordan and Bethaney Waldrep, Colt and Celia Brown, Chloe Brown, Madison and Tyler Clark, Connor and Rayanna Newcomb, and Gage Brown. Along with 15 great grandkids and numerous nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. She will be greatly missed.

 A gathering of family and friends will be held at Melancon~Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas on Tuesday, February 4th, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service to begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas.
