Vera Lea Petersen, 91, of Groves, Texas passed away Friday, November 28, 2014. She was born January 6, 1923 in Cheneyville, Louisiana to Julius Earle Lewis and Francis F. Couvillion Lewis. Vera was a lifelong area resident and member of First United Methodist Church of Groves. She was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Christian F. Petersen, Jr. Survivors include two daughters, Laura Fanese and husband, Rennie of Groves, TX, Karen Willis and husband, Bill of Harker Heights, TX; son, Christian F. Petersen, III and wife, Loraine of Katy, TX; sister, Mable Nelson of Port Neches, TX; six grandchildren, Kimberly Coates and husband, Greig, Elizabeth Lane and husband, Hoppy, Jillian Craig and husband, Nick, Alicia Burke and husband, Josh, Elaena Swanton and husband, Jeremy, Katie Wooten and husband, Stevie; 15 great-grandchildren; and two nephews, Steve Nelson and David Nelson both of Port Neches, TX. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Groves with Reverend Marty Boddie and Reverend J. B. Prouse officiating under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home.
