Verdie Moss Gleason

1928 ∼ 2020

Verdie (Moss) Gleason, lovingly called Mamaw Verdie by her family, was born in Sulphur, Louisiana, on February 7, 1928. On Monday, December 14, 2020, when God called her home, she closed her eyes one last time and then re-opened them to the glory of heaven. It brought the family much comfort to know that she always knew the caregivers at her nursing home, and Donna and David, the son-in-law he liked to call her son-in-heart, would watch over her until she began her last journey. Verdie adapted to each change in her life, always feeling like her glass was half-full, never half-empty, trusting God to bless her in all of life's circumstances.

Verdie was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her kind spirit, her empathy and compassion for others, her generosity for those in need, her loyalty, her tolerance for the mistakes of others, and her forgiving spirit that caused her to encourage others not to judge others for their mistakes. Most of all, she will be remembered for her appreciation of life and God's blessings even in trying times, She will be greatly missed, especially at holidays where, before life took her health, she used her unsurpassed cooking skills to create delicious meals with tempting tastes and smells that will continue to trigger many precious memories of holidays spent with her-memories that will be cherished and stored in the hearts of her loved ones for years to come until we join her in heaven.

Since 1946, Verdie has been a resident of our area, where she and her adored husband of 69 years, George W. "Bill" Gleason, raised their family. Through the years, she and Bill enjoyed gardening, fishing, and traveling the United States to see the wonders of our great country, many times bringing their beloved grandson, Troy, with them.

Verdie was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Gladys Moss, Sr., of Sulphur, Louisiana, and her husband, George W. "Bill" Gleason. She is survived by their daughter, Donna, and David, her son-in-law who chose to be her beloved caregiver for over a decade. Verdie is also survived by her son, John Gleason, and his wife, Diane, and grandchildren, Troy and Alicia Guidry, Belinda and her husband, Jeremy Battenfield, Brian Gleason, and 10 great grandchildren whom she adored-Taylor and Paisley Guidry, Cody and Kiera Battenfield, and Jeffery, Jada, Patrick, Jade, Moani, and Elaika Gleason. She is also survived by a multitude of beloved nieces and nephews, and her precious caregivers at Senior Rehabilitation whom she considered family and her guardian angels on earth.

Visitation for family and friends will begin at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches followed by the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. with Dr. Jason Burden officiating.

Burial will be Friday, December 18, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 3098 Highway 69 N Nederland, Texas.

"What Room Would She be Given?" Growing up i was raised on many things the bible, church, do good in school and always chase your dreams In church i learned that Jesus came he died and rose again, because of this most self-less love God's plan of redemption A Christian His friend. In Heaven I learned there are many rooms we have forever with Jesus and loved ones and friends, the rooms, just like God, are like mansions above their glory, their splendor, the expansion of the places like Christ, our redeemer, our heavenly homes are our homes that don't end. Growing up and where God has me for now someday i know the mansions He's already made one for me. And someday I'll see my Grandma Verdie, but even in Heaven for her mansion, what that type of room would that be. She baked, she cooked, she cleaned, she served and not just family but also her friends. She gave smiles to everybody, extended her heart out, always 'an open door" to somebody new and always willing to give them her hand. Her flowers were always treated, plucking the weeds to get the best bloom, bird feeders fed, card games with family, a smile and some leftovers what she gave to others on earth indeed rarely had enough room. From brownies to biscuits to turkeys and rice no one could "give in return" all she asked was a smile and "hello" Her floors always swept, her beds always made, her house and home on earth was always a room for loved ones to go. Now being raised in church and through Jesus alone, i'll someday have a mansion, and because of the hope in Jesus Christ, my Grandma i know she has one too. Raised in church i learned God is pretty smart on how He plans our paths, and he knows how to help us use our gifts on earth and surely gives us a place in Heaven too, My one question I would have to ask God about my Grandma Verdie, with all her love and talents, which room would He use? She has to have a kitchen, she'll want to cook and feed Whether birds, or guests, or neighbors in Heaven, she'll still be "planting seeds" She'll have to have room for noise, she'll be "smile, greet, huggin' time for everyone she meets. She'll have to have lots of tables and chairs, Grandma Verdie, even in Heaven, won't allow an "empty seat." Heaven is full of many mansions, the book of John assures us so, mansions seem small in the presence of Jesus, what joy will come through, that day it will bring But just as John's gospel assures us He will have a place for and there are many mansions I'd try to picture the mansions and seeing Jesus and a perfect Kingdom of people, places, and things worship and singing and rejoicing before God reunited with loved ones in eternal joy that can't end. So, where will God choose a place for Grandma Verdie, and learning in church God is perfection to a "tee" But with all the love, and giving Grandma gave to everyone, what kind of mansion would she need? She'll wanna make sure everyone's fed, all the flowers are watered, the birds have all their feeders, and in the presence of Jesus forever with others not person over looked without a smile and 'lend a hand" I believe God has mansions for all of us His word is true, and so is He and through the blood and grace of Christ the promised Kingdom we cannot lose God is infinite and everything, and His Glory and power the "limits" are never there with Him Still, i often wonder if Heaven just has one mansion, and they're all the same a what a day that will be, and is for those gone before us With Grandma Verdie style of traveling, serving, making "bingo laughs" for others, and never leaving anyone person not being "spoiled rotten & attended to", I thank God for His promise, but have to ask for one mansion for Grandma Verdie and her love for everyone, which room would she use? Grandma has a mansion in Heaven she's in the presence of her saviour, the only saviour, Jesus Christ our King She'll be there for eternity with Him and all loved ones and believers and ancestors, a promise through Christ that no one can lose And just like on earth her "mansion" in Heaven she'll want to serve more than be serve and love on everyone, mostly give here praise to God Somehow I think when enter into His the day of that glory and she's there loving on everyone I'll have to ask "God, which room would she use?" Grandma Verdie entered into the presence of Jesus and at least "one mansion" maybe two or three I thank my God and Savior Jesus Christ, the one true God at last Grandma Verdie's finally free free to love free to share free to worship free to fellowship and give If God's mansions are as big as the giver who gets them, When I enter His presence and look to see her again, I'll have to ask the most awesome God and only God "Father, she's running around Heaven loving on everyone can i just ask one question, Awesome Heavenly Father, which room would she use?" This poem is dedicated to my grandmother(and family)Verdie Moss Gleason (Feb. 7, 1928-Dec.14, 2020) entered into the presence of Jehoviah, God , one true God and only God, through our saviour Jesus Christ, the one true Lord of all), and i know she's up there in Heaven having a ball. Love ya Grandma see ya again this poem is for you "in His love, God bless", Alicia Guidry (Feb. 12, 2021)
