Vernice "Ray" Joseph Dore

Vernice Joseph Ray Dore passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Magnolia Manor in Groves, TX at the age of 88 years.He was born in Port Arthur, TX to Lillian Landry Dore and Jacques Dore. He attended schools in Port Arthur, enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1942, served until 1946, and received an honorable discharge. He returned to Port Arthur and was employed by Gulf Oil for more than 39 years and retired in 1980 as a maintenance supervisor. To his friends at Gulf Oil, he was known as quotPlutoquot.He enjoyed working on his acreage in Crocket, TX, yard work, gardening, and trips to casinos.He is survived by his wife Ruth of 65 years, son Michael Dore and wife Jan of Houston, TX, and daughter Molly Dore Graser and husband David of Port Neches. Grandchildren are Lauren Graser of Port Neches,TX and Vince, Chris, Caroline, Brian, and Allison Lam of Houston, TX. He is also survived by a brother Harry J. Dore and sister Margie Harper of Port Arthur and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.Visitation will be from 4pm to 7pm on Monday, November 29, at the Heritage Funeral Home in Nederland, TX with rosary at 5pm with Msgr. Bennie Patillo officiating. Services will be held at 10am on Tuesday, November 30, at the funeral home. Interment will follow be at Oak Bluff Cemetery in Port Neches, TX.His family would like to thank the staffs of Magnolia Manor and Odyssey Hospice for their help and support during his illness.Contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
