Vianna “Vi” Rose Trahan McCreary, 79, of Nederland, Texas passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at HCA Medical Center in Houston, Texas.
Vi was born on August 9, 1943, in Port Arthur, Texas to Hulin Trahan and Lillie Graffagnino Trahan. She graduated from Bishop Byrne High School and was a member of the Colleen Drum and Bugle Corps. Vi later went to Lamar University in Beaumont and graduated with a Master’s degree in education and then went on to teach at Sabine Pass, Groves and Cathedral in the Pines private school in Beaumont where she taught all together for thirty-five years as a teacher. She was also was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Port Neches and was very instrumental in the church and church activities. Vi was the “Mass Chaplain” for many years and severed in several other capacities at the church. She loved her church family and they loved her. Vi was a member of the Ladies Guild, the Sertoma Club, and The Daughters of the American Revolution and was a volunteer for Cavoilcade for many years. She loved to play Bunco with her friends but mainly she loved her family. There was nothing that she would not do for her family, friends, co-workers, church members and just anyone who needed help. Vi was one of a kind. She will be missed!!
Survivors include her husband of two years, Eddie McCreary of Nederland; her daughter, Valerie Gower and her husband John Gower; grandchildren, Amber Toutcheque, Kaitlyn Durney and her husband Tyler Durney, Steven Slaughter, Dylan Slaughter and his wife Jessica Slaughter; great grandchildren, Cezar Govea, Jailynn Suarez, Alexander Suarez ,Isiah Suarez and Anastasia Suarez, Jaxson Hanley, Matthew Slaughter, Thalia Lewis and Jaycie Slaughter and Brooklyn Slaughter; her cousins and other family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Hulin and Lillie Trahan; her first husband, Otis Lee Ward who passed away on October 14, 2014.
A gathering of family and friends will take place from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Port Neches. A Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.
