Viola "Potsy" McBride, 96, a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother as well as a friend to many people, passed away in Friendswood, Texas on Monday, March 11, 2024. She is now joined with her beloved husband Waverd in Heaven.
Vi was born on October 27, 1927, in Nordheim, Texas. She graduated from Yorktown High School in 1945 and later moved to San Antonio where she met the love of her life, Waverd McBride, Jr., whom she married on July 13, 1946, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Yorktown, Texas. Vi and Waverd shared a passion for dancing and were always impeccably dressed.
Throughout her life, Viola McBride was known for her giving nature and generosity. She cultivated a love for puzzles and had a knack for nurturing plants with her green thumb.
Vi was a long-standing member of Immaculate Conception St. Peter Catholic Church in Groves, Texas where she actively participated in the Altar Society. Her dedication to the church and her adoration for her grandchildren were among her proudest accomplishments.
Vi is survived by her children, Ann Benson and husband. Chuck of New Braunfels, Texas; Phyllis Robertson and husband, Judd of Port Neches, Texas; and Glenn McBride and wife, George Ann of El Lago, Texas. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Jamie Spisak and husband, Tim of McAllen, Texas; Kellie Cashatt and husband, Clay of Austin, Texas; Jason Gregg and wife, Tara of New Braunfels, Texas; Grant Cecka and wife, Natasha of Port Neches, Texas; Lyndsey Smith and husband, Kevin of McKinney, Texas; Chad McBride and wife, Denise of Pearland, Texas; and Shelley Johnson and husband, David of Seabrook, Texas; as well as fifteen great-grandchildren.
Viola "Potsy" McBride is preceded in death by her parents, Annie (Selfert) Baschnagel and Ben Baschnagel, her first husband, Waverd McBride, Jr.; second husband, Raymond Fontenot; brother, Herbert Baschnagel; and sister, Bernice Baschnagel.
A visitation for Viola "Potsy" McBride will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., with a service to begin at 10:00 a.m., at Immaculate Conception/St. Peter Catholic Church; 4100 Lincoln Ave., Groves, Texas 77619. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.

Viola "Potsy" McBride will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family. May she rest in peace.
