Vivian L. Funicelli Galvan

Vivian L. Funicelli Galvan, born on November 20, 1946, in Port Arthur, Texas, departed this life on December 15, 2025 in Beaumont, Texas. A cherished daughter, devoted wife, beloved mother, doting grandmother, and caring great-grandmother, she touched the lives of many with her warmth and spirit.

Vivian was a proud graduate of Bishop Byrne High School, where she completed her education in the class of 1965. During her High School career she was a Colleen from 1963 - 1965. She later assumed a significant role at JC Penney Styling Salon as Manager, where her dedication and personal touch made a lasting impact on both her colleagues and clientele.  She later transferred to the JC Penney's in Corpus Christi where she served in several positions to finish out her career. Beyond her professional endeavors, she had numerous passions that brought her joy. In her younger years, she made her mark in the thrilling world of drag racing and later enjoyed bowling, frequently participating in leagues alongside her husband, Rene.

A woman of many treasures, Vivian was known for her heart of gold and her love of shopping. Her family remembers her as a spirited individual who embraced life with fervor. She had a special fondness for animals, particularly her beloved dog, Missy, who provided her with companionship and comfort.

Vivian's legacy is carried on through her son, Greg Smith and his wife Michelle of Port Neches. Her grandchildren, Jackie Briscoe and her husband Josh of Port Neches, Kirstie Dufresne and her husband Justin of Sulphur, Louisiana, as well as her great-grandchildren—Hayden Melanson, Tanner Melanson, Joslyn Briscoe, Gage Gros, Amelia Gros, Amora Dufresne, and Justin Dufresne II—remain deeply connected to the love she imparted during her life.

She is survived by her sisters, Marie Moran and her husband Rodney of Bridge City, and Irene Garcia and her husband Jody of Livingston, who retain fond memories of her spirited nature and kindness.

Vivian was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rene Galvan, and her parents, Ralph and Laura Funicelli, as well as, her brothers, Louis Funicelli and his wife, Bobbi, and Harris Funicelli and his wife, Peggy, along with her sister, Rose Youngblood and her husband, Perry. The family also reflects sorrowfully on the loss of her grandsons, Dustin Smith and Rustin Smith, and her great-granddaughter, Justyn Lyn Dufresne.

Oh, my sweet sister. Our memories growing up together are too numerous to count. There are too many to choose a favorite or make a list even. We didn't have everything we wanted, but certainly had everything we needed, which was love from our parents, siblings and friends for so many years. Rest safely in the arms of the Angels, be at peace and rejoice with Rene and all of our loved ones that have gone before us. You are forever in our hearts.

I will forever miss my Nanan. She was my mom's (Paula Delahoussaye Bru's best friend) and she meant everything to me. I will miss her. Im bessed for all the time I was able to spend with her. We even bowled on many leagues together. She was one of a kind. May she dance with Rene in heaven.

I am very sorry to read of the passing of Vivian. We were classmates in grade school and in high school. She was always fun to be around, had a great sense of humor and she was a genuinely nice person. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this most difficult time.
