W. Everett "Smoky" Sanderson

W. Everett “Smoky” Sanderson, 93, of Nederland, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 in Port Arthur. Smoky was born June 23, 1929 in Nederland to the late Willie Oscar Sanderson and Jimmie Everett Sanderson. He was a self-employed Attorney in the Nederland area for many years. He also served our country proudly in the U.S. Army, and was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Nederland.

Smoky is survived by his two daughters, Connie Butler and her husband, Tommy of Nederland, and Catherine Werner and her husband, David of Hemphill; his son, Everett Sanderson and his wife, Darla of Hemphill; his sister, Vivian Sturrock and her husband, Bill of Beaumont; his brothers, Gary Sanderson and his wife, Rhonda of Beaumont and Bob Sanderson and his wife, Wanda of Arizona. He was also survived by 10 grandchildren, Sara Webb, Joshua Sanderson, Jason Butler, Zachary Butler, Chad Womack, Sadie Blanchard, Chase Womack, Holden Butler, Jordan Bennie, and Mitchell Sanderson; 16 great grandchildren, Karson Webb, Kameron Webb, James Sanderson, Drew Sanderson, Jude Butler, Ella Butler, Blair Butler, Major Butler, Easton Womack, Leighton Womack, Hampton Womack, Layla Blanchard, Aniston Womack, Baylor Womack, Georgie Bennie, and Baby Butler.

Smoky is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of seventy years, Barbara Jo Sanderson, his sister, Jo Ellen Skiles, his brother, Glenn Sanderson, and his great granddaughter, Lexi Blanchard.

A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday, December 7th at 4:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Nederland followed by his memorial service to begin at 5:30 p.m. under the direction of Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to Grant’s Guardians using Venmo, PayPal, sending to P.O. Box 1343, Nederland, Texas 77627 or the First United Methodist Church in Nederland.

I worked for Frank M. Lamson back in the early 80's. I know of Smokey Sanderson through Mr, Lamson as they were close friends. I remember him as being a pleasant and very nice person. I hope he's resting in peace on the Other Side with his buddy Mr. Lamson!
