Whitman Larry Reed

Whitman Larry Reed, 79, of Port Neches, Texas passed away in his home Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Larry was born March 29, 1939 in Orofino, Idaho to Archie Reed and Mabel Winn Reed. He was a resident of Port Neches for 43 years. As a Nurse Anesthetist for 41 years, spending 15 of those as a Locum Tenens Anesthetist. Across the country, Larry served the local community through his work at Mid-Jefferson Hospital, among others. After attending Gonzaga University, he received degrees from Lewis-Clark State College, Idaho State University, and the Sacred Heart Medical Centers School of Anesthesia, where he got straight "A"s. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a Medic, traveling to Japan, the Philippines, and finally Vietnam, where he was injured. Although he enjoyed fishing and traveling in his leisure time, Larry worked tirelessly nearly all his life to provide and care for his family. In an ever-changing world, he was a steady rock for all those he held dear to lean and rely on. Larry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dean Reed of Port Neches, Texas; daughters, Rhonda Kay Reed of Port Neches, Texas, Cynthia Renee Reed of Missoula, Montana; sisters, Kay Lynn Dupuis of Missoula, Montana, JoAnn Moyer of Spokane, Washington; brothers, Dwight Reed and wife Cherri, Douglas Reed and wife Sandra, and David Reed all of Lewiston, Idaho; grandchildren, Seth Taylor Reed, Benjamin Blane Skinner, and Joshua David Kenny. A visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Southeast Texas or the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
