William "Wedge" Taylor

William "Wedge" Taylor passed away October 10, 2023 at the age of 69 at Houston Methodist Hospital after his long battle with cancer.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Tammy of 30 years; Daughter, Amanda Schrader and husband, Scott; Daughter, Anna Trahan and husband, Joseph; Son, Cody Taylor and wife, Nikki; and Son, Noah Taylor and his beloved companion, Breauxdy (Dog); Grandkids, Haley and Cason Schader and Jude and Jonah Trahan; and countless friends and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha Lee Taylor and father, Calvin Henry Taylor.

He was a lifelong resident of Nederland, and loved his Nederland Bulldogs. He graduated from Nederland High School in 1972 and received a scholarship to Blinn College to play baseball. Wedge knew his savior, the Lord Jesus Christ and was an active member of Fellowship Church in Nederland faithfully for 17 years. Wedge worked at Gerdau Ameristeel in Rose City for 40 years. Wedge was involved with Nederland Little League, softball and Mid- County Babe Ruth for over 35 years. In his early years he played fast pitch softball for the Port Arthur Saints. Wedge was a special person who volunteered for youth baseball as a coach, umpire, foul ball chaser, and many other jobs. He played Babe Ruth in his youth. No matter what sporting event it was you could almost guarantee Wedge would be at the game.

He absolutely loved going to support his kids and grandkids in any activity or hobby that they were all involved in. His most important thing in life was no matter what he had going on in his life he always made sure he spent time with his friends and family because that’s what meant the most to him.

A gathering of friends and family will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Fellowship Church Nederland located at 1315 S. 27th Street, Nederland, Texas from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with the Celebration of Life to begin at 3:00 p.m. Services are under the direction of Melancon-Levingston Funeral Home, Nederland, Texas.

I will always remember Wedge’s passion for helping kids learn baseball as an umpire. When my son played Little League, we always knew it would be a fair, honest game and it was guaranteed that Wedge would educate the kids with baseball knowledge. Noah, I’m so sorry for this difficult loss buddy. I know your dad is very proud of you. To Tammy and the rest of the family, I will be adding you all to my prayers during this emotional time.

Wedge was my Husband David Berry’s best friend in life. They knew each other from their youth and stayed close through life. I have known Wedge for 47 years. We have shared life’s good time and bad. He stood as best man at our wedding in 1978 and stood with us through life . He was there at the birth of our son and when we put our parents to rest. I. Will miss my brother more than I can say. I thank God for the blessing of knowing such a great man
