Wilma Marie Beresford, 85, of Groves, Texas passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Magnolia Manor. Wilma was born November 3, 1931 in Crabtree, Arkansas to Newton Alexander Graham and Anna Lucille Graham. Wilma was known for her heart and her love of teaching. Wilma loved fiercely, in a sweet, quiet way and dedicated her life to Christian service. She fought tooth and nail against the odds to make something of herself, and to this day, former students still ask about her. She was not just "Mom" to her biological children. She was "Mrs. B" the Mother to everyone who gave her a chance to believe in them, even when they could not believe in themselves. She left this world peacefully, surrounded by family and friends. Wilma was a lifelong Groves resident and member of Val Verde Baptist Church. She retired from Port Neches Groves ISD after many years of teaching, and was also a member of Texas State Teachers Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Beresford; son, Robert "Bobby" Beresford; and brothers, Joe Graham, James Venable and Obrey Venable. Survivors include her daughters, Anna Walker and Angela Beresford both of Groves, and Becky Beresford of Port Neches; sister, Lucy Manley and her husband Jack of Pearland; brothers, Newton Hall Graham of Oklahoma, Gene Venable and his wife Barbara of Groves, AB Joseph Venable of Buna; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Reverend Brent Stancil and Reverend Nick Dignan officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Special thanks to Magnolia Manor for the care and support given to our family and loved one.

Not only a great teacher, but a great friend. I had the privilege of visiting her with other former students one Christmas shortly before she passed. Thank you Mrs. B for your guidance.

What a special lady and outstanding teacher! I had the privilege of being in Mrs. Beresford's first class of 4th graders (1963-64). I adored her and chose to be a teacher because of her. I displayed our Groves Elem. 4th grade class picture prominently in my 4th grade classroom throughput my teaching career. When students would ask about it, I would tell them this was Mrs. Beresford's class, my beloved, favorite teacher. I have thought of her so often, and I am so saddened to hear of her passing. May you find comfort in the knowledge of how admired and loved she will always be. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Lucinda (Cindy) Jones Hollier

Angie ,Allison .Scott, and the rest of your family. I know how very much you will miss your Mother, Grandmother. She was truly an amazing lady. She gave so much of herself to so many and she was the most unselfish person I have ever seen in my life . She loves her family first and foremost but she loved teaching she loved kids and she love to help . But most of all she love the Lord with all of her heart . On the days that it's hard just think of her and all of the great accomplishments that she achieved in her life . All of the things that she said and left here on earth with us with such wisdom and poise she was truly an amazing lady she will truly be missed . I will be praying for you and your family My love to all of you.

Wishing Mrs Beresfords family my sincerest condolences, praying that God will guide you through this journey. Mrs Beresford was my 6th grade teacher at Groves elementary school, she taught me well. Her perspective on how one should conduct one's life in the classroom carried over into the real world. For this I Am forever grateful. One of my favorite poems helps me when I am troubled. A man upon entering Heaven looks back and sees two sets of footprints then only one. He asks Jesus, when I see but one set this is when I needed you most, Jesus replies at the times in your life when you see but 1 set of prints it then that I carried you. When you are down or troubled say a prayer to your dear beloved Mother and she will lift you in her warm embrace. Put trust in God things will get better. God bless, you all are in my prayers. your friend Joey.
