Wynell Sturrock Hollomon, 92, of Port Neches, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 27, 2017. She was born on January 18, 1925 in Tyler County to the late Vernon Sturrock and Sylvia Fortenberry Sturrock. She was proud of her Scottish heritage. Her father was a share cropper and her mother was a homemaker. She went to school in Colmesneil, TX. After marrying Leon Hollomon she had three sons and then attended Lamar University graduating Magna Cum Laude. She was a 6th grade teacher, a reading specialist, a supervisor before becoming the first female school principal for the PNGISD. After Leon passed away in 1989 she married Jack Davis in 2002. Jack attended school with her in Colmesneil, then he passed away in 2005. She was interested in reading, travel, canning and family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Port Neches and Delta Kappa Gamma.
Wynell is survived by her sons, James (Mary) Hollomon of Florida, Patrick Hollomon of Baytown, TX and Michael Hollomon (Eric Wailes) of Fayetteville, AR; grandchildren, Carrie Slagle, Casey Hollomon (Andrea); great-grandchildren, Khale, Cooper and Addison Hollomon, Annabeth and Cameron Slagle; step-daughters, Gerette Pattison (Rick) and Michele Bauer (Tim); sisters, Elma Ray Minyard, Ruby Adams (Kenneth) and Norma Clubb; sister-in-law, Nelva Barlow and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues. She is preceded in death by her parents and husbands.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland with the funeral service starting at 2:30 p.m. The interment will be at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, TX.
