Yolanda Garcia Gutierrez, 87, of Nederland, Texas gained her angel wings Saturday, April 30, 2022, passing peacefully in her sleep at Forever Young Assisted Living Facility in Groves, Texas.
Yolanda was born on January 2, 1935, in General Terán, Mexico to Rolando and Isabella Garcia. She was the third child born of five children. In 1955, she met the love of her life, Guadalupe Gutierrez, Sr. Yolanda was working in the ticket booth at the local movie theatre when Guadalupe Gutierrez, Sr. approached her window to buy a ticket for the movie. It was love at first sight. The two were married on June 15, 1956, in Port Arthur, Texas where they made their home for many years before moving to Nederland in 1972. They were married for 66 years and with this union came 5 sons and 1 daughter.
Yolanda was a homemaker and loved cooking for her family and all of her children’s friends. The Gutierrez household was known for feeding her children’s friends as well as many of the neighborhood kids. When her children’s friends would come over to the house, she would stop whatever she was doing and cook for them. The Gutierrez household was known for homemade tortillas, tacos, beans, rice, and tamales. Her children’s friends knew she would feed them any time of day or night, as she took pride in her cooking and always made sure that each child left with a full stomach.
Those left behind to cherish Yolanda's memory, include her sons, Guadalupe Gutierrez, Jr. and wife Hilda of Nederland, TX; George Gutierrez and wife Alyssa of Beaumont, TX; Richard (Ricky) Gutierrez and wife Robyn of Lumberton, TX; James Gutierrez and wife Stacy of Rusk, TX; and daughter, Magda Gutierrez Kelly-Perez of Nederland, TX; grandsons, Brandon Gutierrez, Jarrod Gutierrez, Christopher Gutierrez, Cody Gutierrez, Bryan Gutierrez, Jameson Gutierrez, Brent Kelly, Noah Gutierrez; granddaughters, Rachel Behar, Jennifer Hayes, Casey King, Jamie Kelly, Megan Gutierrez, Allyssa Kelly, LeeAnne Kelly, Sarah Cornright McKee, Hannah Mohammad; and 12 great grandchildren, with another on the way.
Yolanda was preceded in death by her husband, Guadalupe Gutierrez, Sr.; son, Gilbert Gutierrez; parents, Rolando and Isabella Garcia; sisters, Irma Tamez, Rosalva De La Paz, Noellia Varella; and brother, Pedro Garcia.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, May 6, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life to honor Ms. Yolanda at 12:00 p.m., at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland. Interment will follow at Memory Garden's Cemetery in Nederland, Texas, with Kyle Trahan as officiant.
The family would like to say thank you to all of Yolanda’s caretakers and the entire staff from Forever Young Assisted Living Facility as well as Compassion Hospice (Dianna & Ellen) for the excellent care that they gave her. The family could not have asked for a better place for her to spend the last 9 months on this earth. She loved living at Forever Young and she really enjoyed the other residents that lived there with her. This became her home and she gained some wonderful new friends.
Serving as pallbearers include: Brandon Gutierrez, Christopher Gutierrez, Cody Gutierrez, Bryan Gutierrez, Jameson Gutierrez, Brent Kelly, & Noah Gutierrez.
Honorary pallbearer will be Jarrod Gutierrez.
